A Brief Word on "Bitterness & Love"

Money can't buy love, and bitterness should never be able to stop it. "Bitterness" is much more than the resentment one chooses to retain, but it is also the numbing or protecting of one's self from experiencing the same kind of pain again by trying to avoid the same experiences and refusing to ever again take the risk. How someone else hurt you should never be stronger than the love within you and your will to give it. Love is a gamble you play with your heart, but it is the only risk worth taking regardless of how often you may seemed to have lost.

You can never truly lose at love even though you experience heartaches and may even live in a difficult unloving situation. Heartaches are evidence your love was real and made you feel alive. Don't die because your relationship has; live to love again or try to rekindle what you have if possible. How can you truly lose a part of you that runs so deep? You can't. We've been conditioned to believe otherwise because we've been taught love from a selfish perspective that puts more emphasis on what "we get" over what "we give". This is why people most often talk about the love they want over the love they will give. A hidden treasure of love is found in how much you can give in spite of what you haven't gotten.

I've learned it is the one who seeks to give love that really has the power, and will always have more love to overcome all bitterness even after a bitter situation rather than the one seeking to get it. Allow yourself a new chance to fall in love, but this time focus on finding someone you want to give your love to that will respect it without you trying to force it, and give yourself some love too. You will find someone in competition with you to out love you that won't hurt you like you've been hurt before, but will protect you because of their love for you. It truly is more blessed to give than it is to receive.  ~ I.J. West

  1. I think I spend just as much time writing to myself as much as I do for the benefits of others; if not more.
